STEVEN NOSWORTHY

Steven Nosworthy first picked up the guitar in November 1998! He became interested in the instrument after watching Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsay Buckingham perform on ‘The Dance’ tour. It was at that moment he knew he wanted to pursue a career in Music.

Steven began taking guitar lessons immediately from two tutors. Having two tutors a week and a desire to learn, Steven quickly picked up the basics and decided to form a band with a group of friends at school. After a number of member and instrument changes Undiscovered were formed in 2001. In Undiscovered, Steven took the duties as lead vocalist and guitarist. Undiscovered started to perform in school assemblies and local pubs/clubs. Steven’s dad managed the band and secured a string of venues which Undiscovered would eventually play. It was a difficult period for Undiscovered as many venues were reluctant to have such a young band perform in an adult environment.

After performing with Undiscovered for a number of years, Steven was approached by a ‘Nede Records’ producer and asked to take part in an Irish Rock project with a band called ‘Dance to Tipperary’. Steven spent a number of months in 2003 recording the album ‘Life Goes On’ – Again Steven took the male lead vocals and guitar duties in this band. Following the success of the album, Dance to Tipperary went on to perform a string of high profile events in Ireland including ‘The Rose of Tralee Festival’, ‘Lansdowne Road’ and ‘The Dublin Motor Show’.

By the time Dance to Tipperary had finished, Steven had been playing guitar for four years. In that short space of time he had achieved a lot but still had the desire to learn more about the instrument he loved. Steven applied for a Higher National Diploma course at the Academy of Contemporary Music. After a successful application, Steven started his course in September 2003. It was at The Academy of Contemporary Music that Steven developed his professional skills and attributes as a musician. Steven was extremely lucky to learn from some of the finest tutors in the business! They included Dave Kilminster (Roger Waters), Jamie Humphries (Brian May/Anthems), Pete Friesen (Alice Cooper/The Almighty) and many more.

Towards the end of Steven’s Higher National Diploma Course, he was offered the opportunity to extend his learning on the Bachelor of Arts Degree Course. Entry to this course was subject to achieving a Distinction grade on his Higher National Diploma Course. Steven enrolled onto his degree course at The Academy of Contemporary Music in September 2004. Steven spent a further two years studying and developing his skills as a musician. Steven graduated from The Academy of Contemporary Music with a second class honours degree in the June of 2006.

During his time at The Academy of Contemporary Music, Steven began teaching Guitar privately on a one to one basis. He built up a dedicated student base and was teaching up to 25 guitar lesson every week. Many of these students have gone on to perform in bands of their own and study at popular music academies.

In the August of 2007 Steven furthered his career in Education, working as a Learning Support Assistant in the London Borough of Hillingdon. Steven fulfilled this role for one year before being offered the opportunity to train professionally as a Music Teacher. Steven spent a further two years obtaining his Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and NQT.

Since obtaining his NQT status in 2009, Steven has successfully fulfilled a number of roles at a London Borough of Hillingdon Schools. They include: Distance Learning Coordinator, Head of Year, Assistant Director of Learning, Director of Learning and Assistant Headteacher.

Steven continues to teach and fulfil his roles at a London Borough of Hillingdon school and can be found regularly performing live in a number of bands and duo line ups.
